In October, I traveled 60 miles north of Nome to Pilgrim Hot Springs, a land of steaming geothermal pools. From late August until last week, researches and drillers were living onsite, working 24/7 to answer Nome's energy question: Can Pilgrim fuel a geothermal power plant? Engineers say yes.
